Centipede

In this version of the popular coin-op game, you must wield your bug blaster to clear the mushroom patch of enchanted bugs. Stop the Centipede from reaching the bottom of the screen. Clear mushrooms to give yourself more time. Play alone or with a friend. Watch out for jumping spiders waiting at the sides!

Gameplay

Centipede puts the player in control of a bug blaster starting at the bottom of the screen. You can move the blaster in any direction on the screen by moving the joystick. To shoot the bug blaster, press the fire button on the joystick. To fire rapidly, hold the fire button down.

The mushroom patch contains a randomly generated crop of mushrooms between you and a fast-moving centipede, along with other enemy types that appear as the game progresses.

The bug blaster’s movement is blocked by mushrooms. Mushrooms can be destroyed by hitting them 4 times with the bug blaster, giving you more opportunities to hit the centipede before it reaches the bottom of the screen.

The bug blaster is destroyed if any part of the centipede, or another enemy, touches it.

Lives

Each player begins the game with three bug blasters. Additional bug blasters can be obtained by scoring 10,000 points. Each player can have up to 6 bug blasters at once.

When the player dies, any mushrooms that have been shot but not destroyed will regenerate to full health, requiring 4 shots to destroy them again.

Enemy Types

Centipede
The centipede will march back and forth across each row of the screen. The centipede is made up of a series of segments. When a part of the centipede is hit with the bug blaster, the centipede splits into two and both parts move separately. Separating the centipede creates a centipede head on the detached section, which gives more points when hit.

When the centipede hits a mushroom, it will move downwards one row and change direction. When the entire centipede is destroyed by the blaster, a new one will spawn at the top of the screen.

Jumping Spiders
Jumping Spiders appear from the sides of the screen, and attempt to jump on the bug blaster, moving quickly diagonally. Jumping Spiders can jump over mushrooms, and are not blocked by them like the centipede and blaster. When a spider jumps over a mushroom, there is a small chance for that mushroom to disappear.
Poisonous Scorpion
Poisonous scorpions dash around the mushroom patch, poisoning any mushrooms they touch. When a poisoned mushroom is touched by the centipede, it begins to charge directly towards the bug blaster.
Frenzied Flea
The frenzied flea moves down a column of the mushroom patch, creating more mushrooms in its path. Frenzied fleas take two hits with the bug blaster to kill.
