In this atmospheric action sequel to Knight 'N' Grail, control an Archmage on a quest to save their partner. Explore ancient ruins, uncover hidden paths. Defeat the brutal Titans. Search or a magical pendant to undo the curse.
The game begins on the loading screen for the initial level, along with a brief overview of the story. Press the Fire button on the joystick to skip the introduction and begin the game.
Pains ‘N’ Aches puts the player in control of an Archmage tasked with lifting an ancient curse which transformed her into a monster.
Press the Map/inventory button on the joystick once to view a map of all the areas explored. Press the Map/inventory button again to view the Archmage’s inventory.
More areas on the map can be revealed by finding an AREA MAP later in the game.
Ancient stone tablets can be found which provide gameplay hints and key information. Move the Archmage next to a stone tablet and move the joystick down to show its text. Press the fire button to hide the text.
Some characters you encounter can help you on your quest. Move the Archmage next to friendly characters and move the joystick down to engage in dialogue with them. Some characters may ask you to find objects for them - do this and they will reward you greatly!
When certain enemies are killed, they will drop coins which the Archmage can collect. Give these coins to a shopkeeper to buy useful gameplay hints.
The Archmage can find various pendant stones throughout the world, each providing a different abilities and spells to combat encountered enemies and guardians. To change the equipped stone, press the Swap stone buttons on the joystick to adjust each slot.
The archmage can use various abilities depending on the stones he has equipped in his pendant - try different variations of stones to unlock previously inaccessible areas!
Guardians are ancient powerful creatures which block the path of the Archmage. Each Guardian has a weakness - this can be a specific weapon, or object. Some Guardians can only be damaged by hitting a specific weak spot.
Defeating a guardian may yield an object useful to your quest.

Upon freeing the Knight’s beloved from the curse, The Archmage was given the Grail as reward. With this powerful asset in hand, The Archmage planned to rule the kingdom. The plans, however, were thwarted by the brutal Titans!
In a cruel twist of the fate the Archmage’s partner was enchanted with the same spell that cursed the Knight’s beloved. She was transformed into a hideous monster! The Archmage fled into exile.
Years later, the Archmage heard rumours of a pendant that could reverse the spell. However, in order to embark on this quest, the Archmage would need to take on human form… and so it begins!
